A dull brain responds slowly to carrying out basic brain cognitive functions like perceiving, understanding and remembering information.

Scientifically speaking, no one can have a dull brain. You might just be using less of your natural brainpower.

Dullness is all about the slow speed of the brain in processing, similar to a computer’s processor! Unlike the computer, the brain can gain processing speed by continuous practice and brain exercises.

What can make your brain dull?

Lack of a healthy diet

In addition to a balanced diet, some nutrients are key for a healthy brain. Essential fatty acids such as Omega 3 and Omega 6 are intimately involved in brain function.

Also, Niacin, Pyridoxine, Folic acid and Vitamin B12 help to control methylation, a process that goes on throughout the brain and body, helping to turn one neurotransmitter into another. These neurotransmitters are the brains chemicals of communication, they send messages from one brain cell to another.

Lack of healthy diet can lead to accumulation of toxins like lead and copper in the brain.

Also, excess consumption of fatty food can cause a decrease in blood flow to the brain that in the long run will reduce the brain cognitive process.


Exercise helps the brain in a lot of ways, and lack of exercise has the exact opposite effect on the brain. These can accelerate ageing of the brain and predispose the brain to stroke, and neurogenerative diseases.

Toxin Or Chemical Effect

Toxins accumulation in the brain can affect cognitive processes. Some neurotoxic chemical or drugs and oxidants can cause damage to the brain cell and reduce its function!

Common examples of neurotoxins include lead, ethanol (drinking alcohol), manganese, glutamate, nitric oxide, botulinum toxin (e.g. Botox), copper, tetanus toxin, and tetrodotoxin etc.
